Do you like over-the-top antics done by demons who are trying really hard to be evil and usually failing? Great! Strap right in, it's time for... DISGAEA VALOR.... 2!!
The pitch; the Netherworlds have long been connected through the NetheRail System, trains shooting through the space in between worlds to connect demons together in disharmony. When the legendary train, the Nether Express 666, is found abandoned in a train graveyard, a new crew of demons will set out aboard the rails to right wrongs, or do wrongs, or just wrong wrongs!! What you do from there is up to you!
This is a interest pitch slash recruitment post. A start date is looking almost a year out so this is just to get you ready, gauge interest, and shoot around character ideas.

Q: Can we only play demons?
A: I'm down for running whatever tbh. Demon, human, prinny, angel; we can figure out whatever you want to do. That said, the cast shouldn't be ALL non-demons.
Q: Since this has a multi-netherworld setup, can I play an Overlord?
A: Yes. You'll need to think of a reason you're level 1 at the start though.
Q: I don't know anything about Disgaea!
A: That's not a question. But there are probably some setting conceits and tonal issues you'll run into without at least some familiarity. Go watch some cutscene videos and come back.
Q: I've never played Valor, which you didn't mention you're running the game in but I kind of figured?
A: You just added a question mark to make it a question!!! Anyway, that's fine. The original Disgaea Valor had some people new to the system, too. We'll help you through character creation and play when it comes time for that.

3. Character concept? Autistic Trainspotting mage girl! The Ultimate Railroad Bull! A chill Hoboverlord whose netherworld was destroyed! I overflow with concepts for this game!

ETA: Final character concept: Heir to a Netherworld who fell asleep on the Legendary Train, and was reported to have been assassinated, slept through Netherworld War 1 and 2. Awakened by the train invading hooligans to discover their Netherworld has been destroyed.
Time slot: All days available, except for 10AM-2PM Sat and 8-12 Whatever day we wind up moving XMV to if it's not done.

3. Character concept? A rebellious young demon who walks the line between light and dark, but like, from the darkness side. Takes themself extremely seriously at all times, flirts with the danger of walking too close to the sun and becoming truly good. Not taken remotely seriously by their demon mom, who is also in the party, and who pampers them constantly. Hashed out as a possible connection with Kaja's character, if she gets in.
4. Anything you want to see in the game? A battle between two different demon trains, playing out like on-rails naval warfare.

E: I'm thinking this over more, and the character hook isn't really coming together in my head - the ideas behind it are running at odds with each other. Please consider me for the plotting clique instead.

1. Headless horseman train robber on the search for the perfect head. Str/Int companion build.
2. A demon detective who loves nothing better than murder mysteries, especially on trains! The answer to the mystery is inevitably "I couldn't solve it so I just poisoned everyone in the parlor, ANOTHER CASE SOLVED MY DEAR MOTHSON". Following ones dreams is very important even and especially if you are shit at them.
3. Party Satan, a figure of legend who vanished two hundred years ago, during the most amazing party in all of history. Woke up on the train at with a vicious hangover debuff and blurry memories. An obscenely powerful mage who isn't in any condition to use spells right now.
4. Anything you want to see in the game? Even if I don't play the worst detective I want a mystery

3. Character concept? The embarrassing mom of one of the other PCs (probably Quinn's if they gets in). The details would depend on whose mom she is as I'd want to get some good contrast between the two of them. Don't ask how she had a child with a Prinny woman. EDIT: I'm gonna say she was a big Deal and powerful but got reset to level 1 somehow as punishment for falling in love with a Prinny.
4. Anything you want to see in the game? A demon amusement park full of family friendly violence suitable for bringing ones child to.

My concept is still embarrassing demon mom, hopefully of one of the PCs. If not, we'll work out whose mom she is. Had said child with her prinny wife who's since reincarnated. She's really really good at demonic home crafts--cookies that either explode or just are fiendishly delicious, crazy stunts with yarn crafts like eventually yarn portals, and the traditional demon home craft of weaponsmithing. Stuff like that.

3. Character concept? (REVISED JUNE 17th)
A Defender Of Earth turned newbie Demon Minion for reasons unclear to her. She knows she saved her world, and she knows that being the ideal minion is going to be key to saving it again, but not precisely why. If only she remembered more of her past. The Netherworld Minion's Handbook doesn't have answers for that, but it has answers for way too many other things in its digitized, massive page count (search function finally mostly functional as of last year!). Sometimes self-contradicting ones, though. She's just going to try and enjoy the ride and fill the role and hope things work more or less!
Possibly a transwoman, so gender euphoria comes into things a bit. Memory potentially open to being played with in various directions.
4. Anything you want to see in the game? A plot-relevant gambling minigame, possibly based on either Red Dragon Inn's custom deck, Three Dragon Ante if you can find that, or Pandante (I can provide the components for that).

Angel ideas:
Still vacillating on which way to go with this. My original idea was an angel who was raised by demons (who are basically the demon version of the 'irresponsible hippie parents' archetype beloved of a lot of manga) and is adamant that she's a demon. I feel like this overlaps Quinn's character concept a lot though, since the intent was that a lot of her... tension... was about constantly characterizing all her angelic better impulses as just being that rebellious a demon (cf. all of Raspberyl's 'delinquent' shtick in Disgaea 3). Probably on a quest to find/avenge said now-missing parents, but doesn't want to admit it and insists she just needs their corpses to collect their life insurance or something suitably callous like that.
For slightly less elaborate variations I was also considering the opposite case (angel who became a demon and is in denial about it) and the darker case (angel who convinced themselves they're a demon to deal with living in the netherworld. Might wind up in that overlord slot, sort of, though deluded about it of course).
And of course there's always the possibility of playing it straight. Wanders in to distribute alms to prinnies, accidentally starts a revolution, on the run.

Demon version of a Trolley Problem.

Magpie who started out as literally just an ordinary bird, ate part of a dead overlord who had fallen on the battlefield, somehow gained extraordinary magical power and a humanoid (demonoid?) form as a result. Achieved full sapience from doing so, but still retains many birdlike instincts and viewpoints.
Is super pissed about this because she misses her wings and feathers.
Now she's on a mission to find the overlord's next of kin and make them take it back already, but his will was a complete mess and no one really knows who his heir actually is...
4. Anything you want to see in the game? Ridiculous plot twists, fun weird NPCs, gay. So much gay.

Edit: Character concept remains the same, I've come up with a name (Magdalena Carrion) and PB (this one) for her. Barring changes between now and game start, I should be most available on weekends, but am willing to try to be flexible to work around others' schedules.

3. Character concept? A piss and vinegar salandander demon whose grandfather was the previous Nether Express 666 boilerdemon. Unfortunately, this respectable job is overshadowed by a philandering, debt-riddled father who was a great adventurer of some variety and disappeared in parts unknown. As her only living relative, the billions of debt has fallen onto her, which is forcing her to take on odd jobs to pay off the debt.
4. Anything you want to see in the game? Improbable scenarios, questionable ethics, daring sword fights, a princess in disguise!

Date: 2019-09-19 04:18 am (UTC)Still want to use this character concept! The only addition I would have is she's a rough-and-tumble tomgirl that won't admit when she find something adorable and will secretly think about it when she's by herself.
As of right now we're still in the process of finalizing the spring semester. If this next semester is anything to go off of, I would say my best days would probably be Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday. Really it would more depend on when the new class gets decided. Will keep things posted.

3. Character concept? A low-ranking angel who's only done office work for Celestia up to this point, was going to a Netherworld for their first major mission, and their train got derailed by... SOMETHING and they ended up in the graveyard. Is constantly afraid a demon is gonna try to shank them or something because it's funny.

EDIT: Essentially the same, but I'm thinking the character is a TOTAL trainspotter and should hopefully be one of the few who knows a stupid amount of details about the legendary train despite not being a demon. Will probably be heavily a buff/debuff character. In terms of days, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday would be best.
