Trails of Valor
Welcome to Valeria, a confederation of eight states brought together through alliances and shared history. They have a robust history of trade and mutual protection. The confederation is abundant with rivers, the largest of which is the Alba Ora, which splits and merges numerous times to create an interwoven system connecting each of the eight states together.
Since the Orbal Revolution took off, though, the people have been rapidly expanding into orbal technology, as well as using this new technology to construct massive canals to further connect the various states.
The eight states are:
Argon: Dominated by the city of Argon, the largest city of Valeria and the seat of its federal legislature. Argon also has the majority of the confederacy's foreign embassies, and as such it's considered the de-facto capital... at least by other countries, and by Argonians, but not by other members of the confederacy.
Zibell: Upriver from Argon, Zibell hosts a massive riverine city of its own. It owes its existence to river trade and merchant taxes. However, the recent canal projects have created more direct routes of marine trade, allowing people to bypass Zibell and forcing the city and state into a recession.
Kuton: A farming district rich in resources and surprisingly high population. The landowners of Kuton became monetary giants because of this. With their wealth and abundance of population, Kuton was chosen as the seat of Valeria's federal judicial system. But thanks to the Orbal Revolution, the landowners are making their farmlands more and more efficient, allowing them to displace people as they expand their domains.
Wald: A mountainous and less-populated state, Wald nevertheless remains an important cultural site for Valeria. It hosts the seat of Valeria's Septian Church, making it a site of religious importance and pilgrimage. Wald hosts two fairly prominent areas, and is currently in the middle of a project to construct a tunnel through the mountains to connect them.
Schelfaren: The state that was at the heart of Valeria's Orbal Revolution, it now boasts a number of colleges and universities, as well as being the seat of the most powerful orbal technology companies on the continent. Originally it held a number of mining towns, being situated at the foot of the mountains near Wald. It has a number of ministry seats in Valeria due to its former status as a production state and current status as an academic state.
Valrouis: Although situated in the most remote corner of Valeria, it was instrumental in forming the original confederacy. It hosts a large number of forests, forming the backbone of construction in Valeria. More recently, it's been heavily involved in the construction of the new canals all across Valeria. Its workers are a hardy bunch who brag of their strength and deeds.
Fidenae: A state situated on the Fidenae Peninsula, containing almost 3/4s of the confederacy's coastline. It hosts the Valeria Merchant Company, the largest merchant company in the confederacy, as well as the federal Merchant Navy, a naval power rivaling the largest of the more warlike countries.
Tevaneu: A large state bordering Weslan to the south-west, they share part of their language and culture with the warlike country. As a territory, they are fiercely independent, and cooperate with the rest of Valeria out of mutual aid. They form the backbone of Valeria's infantry military, as well as hosting the largest and most successful training halls for various forms of combat.
As various factions withing Valeria, both nationalistic and secessionary, come to a head, the various nations around Valeria begin to move. Weslan to the south-west is in the middle of its own civil war, but has often come into conflict with Tevaneu. Mystolia is a nation steeped in its own culture sharing a north-western border with Valeria - nobility and honor are a big deal in Mystolia, and their alliance with Valeria might only last as long as they believe Valeria holds it as well. And to the north, Saint Arche, the largest seat of religious power on the continent.
And that's not to mention the forces stirring in the shadows...

TRAILS OF VALOR will be a large tabletop game about the fate of Valeria, a country set in a world inspired by the Trails series of JRPGs. Naturally, the system will be Valor.
What you can expect:
-Lots of interconnecting plotlines
-Political intrigue
-Fighting monsters
-Good, evil, and every motivation in between
-Shadowy organizations behind world-spanning conspiracies
-Dumb shounen moments too
I'll be recruiting 5-6 players to run 2 characters each, one "main" character (most likely an anime teen or young adult, who still has a lot of growing to do) and one "side" character (more powerful, probably a relatively older character.) The main and side parties will start off operating separately, but eventually be mixed up as plot allows and requires.
Interested? Sign up!!! Game won't be for a long while (not until I finish running Soleil, which has over a year left, minimum.) But with the amount of plotting and planning, signing up early is the only way I can get everything done.
1. What name/alias do you go by?
2. What's your plurk username? (Or other social media contact.)
3. Character concept? At least for the main character.
4. Anything you want to see in game?
5. What kind of group would you prefer for the main cast? In other words, do you want to be Bracers? A special unit of Valeria? A military school class? Something else?

3. Character concept? Option A: The grandson/apprentice of a metalcrafter in Zibell. The old man quote "doesn't have the head for this orb stuff", so he is studying orbal mechanics himself to help support the demand for orbal appliances. The recent recession has him searching for ways to supplement his grandfather's income, and despite his lack of martial skill, his earned aptitude for orbal arts and engineering has him thinking he just might have a shot at contract work thanks to homemade orbal weapons. His mother has been conspicuously missing for some time, and his father was killed in an incident he doesn't know the truth about. He is slow to trust, and greatly prefers to mull an unfamiliar situation over before action on giving any opinions about it.
Option B: The adopted son of one of Argon's beloved city councilmen (both of his birth parents assumed dead). While his father is well-regarded, the details of the City Council's work are unclear to him and he rarely hears about any actual problems in Argon itself, let alone Valeria as a whole, and he's begun to question whether and how he fits into Valerian politics even as his father talks about only his glory. Part of his father's reputation comes from his strong ties to the unions and Ministry of Industry, and several of his connections in Valrouis have children the son's age - these families' visits to each other are one of the few chances he has to connect with other people his age.
Stuff I want to hide for now:
His birth mother vanished because she's a Grim and was needed elsewhere, and his birth father didn't actually die: he is a Zodiac officer and has adopted a new identity. This could go SEVERAL directions but the big two I can see are "neither of them knew about the other one's other life" and "they did both know and mutually agreed not to wrap their son up in All That Mess from either side." I personally think the latter would make for more interesting character motivations.
4. Anything you want to see in game? I can see this guy not getting along with Schelfaren engineering students or conventional engineers in general and I want that in my life. Mystery devices to take cracks at.
5. What kind of group would you prefer for the main cast? My first thought is a semi-independent government taskforce designed to bring diverse backgrounds together (like, Class VII but directly state-sponsored and not academic); I also like Bracers.

1. What name/alias do you go by? Hi yes it Sven
2. What's your plurk username?
3. Character concept? A young man from Tevaneu, who claims to be a student in the Schools of the Empty Palms, a specialized unarmed combat style with as many schools as it does practitioners. His mentor, mysterious as she is powerful, and hailing from beyond Valeria's borders, has instructed him to become a 'student of the world', following the Empty Palms without devoting himself to a particular school - or its influence. Her reasons for this are yet unknown, but it seems the boy - though spirited and ready to take on any challenge - has a yet unknown path..
4. Anything you want to see in game? Big martial arts throwdowns, big political turmoil. Maybe a steampunk riverboat mecha or two? Look you know I'm down with everything.
5. What kind of group would you prefer for the main cast? My first thought is, like Class VII, a bracer-adjacent but not Bracer-sponsored group. Possibly a post-education/college group if our characters skew towards older than 18??? Some sort of neutral organization that puts them afoul of as many groups as possible for maximum drama.

2. What's your plurk username?
3. Character concept? Looking over the setting concept, the first thing that leapt out to me was a farmers' kid whose family is now short a farm thanks to
the Enclosure movementRisorgimentorobber baronsthe Orbal revolution hitting Kuton, and now is seeking her (probably) fortune in other avenues that require a lot of muscle. If she knows anything about Orbments, it will be a recent development, but she does know how to scrap and work hard.4. Anything you want to see in game? Giant robots, airship battles, plot twists that cause me physical pain. Between you and my experience with Trails in the Sky 1 I think I should be covered.
5. What kind of group would you prefer for the main cast? Bracers are what I know so far, and would make the most sense for my concept, but rookie/cadet soldiers would be fine with me too. A specialist military unit or similar government entity feels like it would make more sense for the "secondary" group.

3. Character concept? Disclaimer, I am totally blind to the series but enjoy trying to make stuff for things I'm blind to, so here goes.
Main party character being a scrappy mechanic girl with a big mouth that gets her into a lot of trouble and fights, and who has gotten pretty okay about coming out of them okay, and sometimes she even wins! Either has some kind of automail-y thing going on, or something like the gear in Megalo Box - whichever one, shove an orb in it, get magic punch.
Side character is like. I want to rescue this league concept art and make it a character. Jovial protective tanky lady. Maybe a mercenary who has been obstinately neutral that ends up having to pick a side?
4. Anything you want to see in game? I wanna magically falcon punch some shitty politicians,
5. Link your favorite AMV! sven took the obvious option but thankfully i have a fallback

2. What's your plurk username?
3. Character concept? A young Tevanese woman off to learn Orbal mechanics to accelerate her career as a military engineer, building forts and bridges and stuff as well as combat training, paired with an old Weslan nobleman who clings to the honor of the 'sword nobility' even as his family fortune has been reduced to nothing but the word 'ser' before his name, and a first-generation Orbal device. And was nobility purchased at the cost of men's lives ever worth it, even for someone as noble as a Bracer?
4. Anything you want to see in game? Joke option: Tax policy debate. Actual answer: I'm not quite sure yet, but I want to be swept up in this so bad I have to go buy the games. If they're any good on PC that is.
5. What kind of group would you prefer for the main cast? I kinda think a student group of some sort might be best-though I don't know if I prefer students of sciences, or students of military stuff.
6. Link your favorite AMV! Gotta go for old-school One Piece AMVs, all the other great ones are already taken.

3. Character concept? Orbal gun using junior bracer-equivalent. Slightly spoiled by an easy childhood in a relatively wealthy family (parents run a septium mining company), got a rude awakening by the realities of training to be a bracer and having things not come easily to them for once. Combat skills that had seemed sufficient against targets at the range proved to be somewhat lacking when faced with living monsters. The stories of bracers in books rarely mentioned the challenge of dealing with frustrated or angry clients. But they keep trying, they wont give up so easily.
4. Anything you want to see in game? Enemies with weird powers, ridiculous looking enemies that are a serious threat, ancient artifacts with mysterious powers
5. What kind of group would you prefer for the main cast? I feel like Bracers are always a good bet, easy hooks and can be very mobile as the story needs.

Character concept: Disgraced noble whose family is heavily involved in the canal projects of Zibell, cutting deeply into the livelihood of the cities that depend on river trade for their day to day lives. While charismatic and compassionate, his efforts to push back, first with politics and later with activism under an assumed identity fail and he's cast out with nothing, his death publicly staged for effect but his family unable to go through with the execution. Faced with the reality of day to day living and the consequences of his many failures, he strikes out on his own to make a life for himself.
4. Anything you want to see in game? Mysterious artifacts, Airship battles and a chance to get really deeply invested in the plight of others in a mysterious Robin Hood / Dread Pirate Roberts sort of fashion.

3. Character concept? I'm not married to this (especially since I see some overlap with other people's concepts) but a prodigy Orbment engineer from Schelfaren, who has a fascination with pre-collapse technologies and not a lot of patience for waiting for their study to be approved through official channels.

Re: AVAILABILITY
WORK EXCEPTIONS: As you know I work nights, so I prefer not going MUCH later than 11 EST (on Mon-Fri) so I can nap before work. December will also be a BIT of a clusterfuck on the evenings due to peak season. Again, will let you know if that changes. Also if we're playing in the morning 10:30-11:00 AM EST is about when I get off work and have cleaned up enough to exist.

Saturday: Disgaea Valor 2 might be wrapping so I guess I'm free.
Sunday: There's no earthly way of knowing whether or not X-Men Valor will be wrapped or not, but I'm gonna bet it will be. So all clear here as well.

3. Character concept? After a tragic accident left her alone in the world, Arkou da Carideo was found by a private investigator unaffiliated with the Bracers who called himself Gerry. Despite Arkou's best attempts to get involved in his cases (and her surprising tactical acumen), Gerry forced her to try and live a normal life after her accident—going to school, making friends, getting hobbies for goodness's sake. But when Gerry disappeared after uncovering a dangerous conspiracy, Arkou joined the Bracers to try and find him... while reluctantly following his wishes and trying to balance her normal life with her adventuring life. Cue shenanigans.
4. Anything you want to see in game? Please give me dramatic setpiece fights, sometimes with giant robots, and break my heart and stomp all over its remains. On a different note, I am SUPER new to Valor (haven't even technically played a single session yet), so I'd appreciate it if you and the group could help me get the hang of things.
5. What kind of group would you prefer for the main cast? While I included a hook for Bracers, I'd prefer if the cast were actually friends at some sort of school to have connections outside of adventurer work.
